The starting point · Where we came in

Some small businesses already have a phone number customers trust. Almost none of them use it to engage with their customers.

Email gets filtered. Social gets throttled by an algorithm that isn't paid to show a small business to its own followers. A loyalty app asks for a download most people won't make for one shop. A text message skips all of it — it shows up on the one screen everyone already checks, from a number the business already owns.

Nobody had turned that into a product a business could actually run. So we did — for ourselves, as the first customer.

The part everyone skips

The easy version was another bulk-texting tool. Import a list, blast a sale, hope nobody replies STOP.

That version already exists, more than once. It gets a business a list, not a program: no clean way for a customer to opt in on their own terms, and no reason to want the next message instead of blocking the number. No incentive for the customer to stay engaged with the business.

The toolset used by the business must be user friendly, easy to use and fast.

The idea we brought

Make signing up the easy part, and make it worth doing.

A customer scans a code at the counter, enters a first name, a birthdate, and a cell phone number, and they're in — no app, no account, no password. From there, the business can send welcome offers and VIP club alerts straight to that list.

And every text is worth opening: points build toward a free reward, tracked under a running "My Perks" list of what's active and what's already redeemed — no app required to check either one.

What we built

One phone number, turned into a full program.

01 · QR Code Sign-Up

A code of its own, for every business.

Every business on Stick gets a unique QR code. A customer scans it, enters a first name, birthdate, and cell phone number, and they're signed up — no app, no download.

02 · Business Texting Setup

A number and an identity a business configures itself.

A business sets up its own texting info — assigned a custom phone number — so every message a customer gets clearly comes from them, not from Stick. No POC dependency.

03 · Draft & Send

Welcome offers and VIP alerts, sent straight to the list.

A business drafts and sends SMS and MMS messages directly to the customers who signed up — a welcome offer the moment someone joins, a VIP club alert when it matters. AI tools are available to help businesses draft compelling messages that maximize conversion.

04 · Loyalty Points & Rewards

A reason to open the next text, without opening an app.

Every visit builds toward something: a points bar that fills up toward a free reward, and a running "My Perks" list showing what's active and what's already been redeemed.

05 · Apple Wallet

Rewards that live next to the boarding pass, not a sixth app.

A customer can add their perks straight to Apple Wallet, so their progress toward a reward sits on the same screen as everything else they already carry.

06 · Data Ownership

The business owns all of their data

No long-term tie to Stick, business owns their data and can take it with them.

01/06

The pitch

As easy as Instagram. But better with a direct customer relationship.

No hardware to install. No app for a customer to download. No long-term commitment for a business to sign. Set up a code, start texting.

Why we built this ourselves

Every other case study on this page is client work. Stick is the same discipline, turned on ourselves.

Product, design, engineering, and product operations under one roof, shipping something we'd want to run if we owned the shop down the street — not a client's brief, our own bet.

That's the pitch to anyone reading this as an RFP: we don't just build platforms like this. We use one, every day, that we built and are still building.
