Connected TV Apps

The WSL used to be scattered across sponsor websites. We helped pull it into one league presence with live video, live scoring, results and an archive, on the web, on phones and on Apple TV.

The tvOS app draws on the same live and archival data as the website and the iOS and Android apps.

Xumo Play is free streaming TV, with 350+ live channels and 70,000+ titles on demand and no subscription or login. We already built and ran Xumo's iOS and Android apps, so we wrote the Apple TV app natively for tvOS on top of that mobile code instead of starting over.

The hard part was the live guide. It holds hundreds of channels, each with hours of schedule ahead of it, and it has to scroll as fast as someone can press a remote. Keeping that much data moving without a stall was the real engineering problem.

Since we were already running Xumo's mobile apps, we took on its Android TV and Fire TV app for a few months to steady it. Crash rates were higher than they should have been, the app was slow, and its TV Input Framework integration, which puts Xumo's live channels in Android's own guide, wasn't working properly.

We also reworked the channel and show data the app hands to Android, so Xumo could pass Google TV certification.

EverPass licenses live sports for bars and venues, and used to ship on its own hardware. We moved it onto the Fire TV, Google TV and LG TV devices venues already had.

Fire TV and Google TV pair a web view with a native video player, as Amazon's and Google's platforms require. LG TV runs as a full web view. Venues started downloading the apps once they shipped.
